Christie Summervill

When Christie Summervill founded BalancedComp in 2010, her goal was nothing less than to radically reimagine salary administration. With over two decades of leadership in business, Summervill saw that the financial services sector could be getting more out of their compensation strategies, but technology and data quality were holding them back from gaining true insights. What banks and credit unions didn't need was another complicated spreadsheet, instead, Summervill envisioned a new paradigm for bringing the human back into human resources. The creation of BalancedComp signaled a momentous shift in the landscape of salary administration; a new era where big data started to work for the benefit of people, and financial institutions could begin to benefit from fully integrated compensation design.

Philippe Asselin

Philippe Asselin has a real sense for team and process and bringing the two together for powerful performance results. While Philippe is able to connect with and support hundreds of banks and credit unions across the country, you'll see him at his best when he consults one-on-one and educates on the tools that ensure his clients find success. He's most energized by being able to empower HR leadership with the BalancedComp systems that help them work smarter.

Philippe's background brings varied perspectives to the conversation and deconstructs client obstacles with a well-rounded approach. He spent more than 20 years managing some of the world's most profitable restaurants and was an executive at a billion-plus asset-sized financial institution for several years.

This dedicated family man, and proud Troy University alum, shares the same drive and focus in financial institution board rooms as he does his many personal pursuits. In 2010 he organized, and still manages, a charity paddleboard race to fundraise a low-income scholarship program. He's also actively involved with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, K9s for Warriors, and The Wounded Warrior Foundation.

Scott Richardson

President & CEO, IZALE Financial Group

Scott Richardson rose rapidly through the ranks in both the financial services and life insurance industries, where he amassed a wealth of expertise during the first half of his 30+ year career. He was a highly successful executive and consultant for one of the largest, most prestigious firms in the industry. Longing to play a more personalized, client-facing role, he founded IZALE.

He created solid relationships with bank regulatory agencies and was integral in the development of customized benefit plans and BOLI placements for hundreds of banks across the country. This unique background has equipped Scott with the capabilities of providing clients with sound wisdom in the design and legal aspects of compensation, nonqualified benefits, and both bank-owned life insurance (BOLI) and corporate-owned life insurance (COLI) plans.

Helen McFarland

Employment Attorney, Seyfarth

Helen represents employers in Washington, Oregon, and California in all types of employment claims including the defense of wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, unfair competition, independent contractor misclassification, and wage and hour claims. She has nearly 20 years of experience litigating in state and federal courts, in arbitration, and before administrative agencies including the Washington Department of Labor and Industries, California Labor Commissioner, the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

In addition, Helen advises clients on the entire gamut of employment issues, including hiring and firing employees, avoiding harassment and discrimination claims, responding to leave requests, accommodating disabilities or claimed disabilities, performing wage and hour audits, handling grievances and investigations, and drafting employee handbooks, agreements, and other employment policies. Helen also trains supervisors and other human resources professionals in best practices.

Helen also serves as an independent investigator to handle workplace complaints for private and public entities, including allegations against executive-level leaders. She efficiently and thoroughly investigates complaints and claims of misconduct to evaluate for compliance with company policies.

Stephanie White

Senior Manager, Crowe

Stephanie is a Senior Manager in Crowe's financial services consulting practice with 24 years of banking experience in multiple positions with both large and community-based banks. Stephanie began her career in accounting and financial reporting with a focus on internal controls over financial reporting. Stephanie then transitioned to Risk Management where she implemented programs to strengthen the bank's risk profile. Stephanie then focused on retail operations with an emphasis on driving a consistent client experience. Most recently, Stephanie served as Chief Operating Officer for a $1.2B community bank.

Jamie McDonald

Executive Vice President, Brown & Brown

Jamie McDonald is currently an Executive Vice President and office lead for the Wichita Brown and Brown office. With over 25 years of experience in employee benefits and healthcare consulting, Jamie is responsible for developing and maintaining customer relationships and providing advice in the areas of plan design, plan funding, carrier negotiations, and vendor management. She assists customers with linking their benefit decisions to the overall business strategy. Jamie specializes in large group markets and the management of complex health care plans. Her expertise encompasses strategy setting, vendor selection/insurance placement, financing, plan pricing, population health management, and employee communications. She also has had extensive experience in financial and data analysis, multi-state plan management, and funding strategies.

Jared Freeman

President/Chief Executive Officer, OnPath Federal Credit Union

Jared Freeman first joined the credit union movement in 2005 with Guardian Credit Union, where he served many roles, ultimately as Chief Operations Officer. From there, he went on to lead ASE Credit Union as President and Chief Executive Officer before making a move to Leaders Credit Union, where he held the role of Chief Experience Officer. In August 2020, Freeman was named President/CEO of OnPath Federal Credit Union.

Joining its 60-year history (2020), the University of Mobile graduate led the transformation of the credit union following a rebrand. Faced with a unique level of uncertainty, OnPath (formerly ASI FCU) was challenged to meet membership and lending goals while creating a member experience bound by the regulations of a post-Covid climate and a new name.

Nearly three years later, OnPath is now one of the fastest-growing credit unions in the country with a focus on strategic initiatives geared toward creating valuable and relevant member experiences across multiple platforms. Combining common sense with FinTech, market knowledge with automation, and general compassion with member experience, Freeman sees a bright future ahead as the 10-branch credit union surpassed its goal to reach $600 million in assets by the end of 2022.

Freeman always credits his childhood as the motivating factor for his leadership in the credit union industry. “Coming up, I was oftentimes forced to go without things - not because I acted up as a kid - but because my family couldn't afford them, and we struggled with finances. For each member who is challenged with making wise financial decisions for their future, I want to be there. I want OnPath to be there”.

Freeman and his wife are residents of Mandeville, LA. They enjoy volunteering and spending time with their dog, Scout.

Virginia Whitham

Chief Human Resources Officer, Rally Credit Union

Virginia Whitham has 30-years of progressive experience in human resources, and a Senior Leader for over fifteen years and serves as the Chief of HR for Rally Credit Union in South Texas. Rally Credit Union currently has a workforce of over 800 positions, with over 25 locations spanning Corpus Christi to the Rio Grande Valley. Virginia guides and manages the overall provision of Human Resources and Training services, policies, and programs for the Credit Union (CU). Virginia collaborates with the Executives and Boards of Directors focusing on organizational development, executive compensation, and culture. She is a Certified Senior Professional with both HRCI and SHRM, a graduate of Southwest CUNA Management School and is now faculty member, and has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Columbia College, Missouri.

Amanda Lloyd

Executive Vice President | Chief People Officer, North State Bank

A member of the North State Bank executive management team, Amanda plays an integral role in strategic planning and direction-setting for the bank, along with guiding many of the day-to-day functions focused on growing customer relationships. She oversees the commercial and retail banking teams, wealth management, human resources, community outreach and marketing, and co-leads the bank's mortgage division.

Amanda joined North State Bank in 2005, five years after the Company's founding. She has played a significant role as the Company has grown and created four dedicated divisions. Prior to joining North State, she held positions at Varian, Inc. (now Agilent Technologies), The University of Tulsa, First Citizens Bank, and Triangle Bank.

An alumna of North Carolina State University, Amanda earned a bachelor's degree in business management with a concentration in human resources. She is a graduate of the North Carolina School of Banking at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds the designation of Senior Professional in Human Resources. In 2022, she was elected to a three-year term on the North Carolina Bankers Association's Board of Directors, a professional trade organization that is a cornerstone for the State's industry, providing advocacy, leadership and support for its members.

An enthusiastic supporter of her alma mater, she is currently in her second term with the NC State Foundation Board of Directors, where she serves as chair of the awards and grants committee. Amanda is also a member of the NC State Alumni Career Focus Group and is a Lifetime Member of the NC State Alumni Association. She previously served as a professional mentor for NC State's College of Management.

Lori Eltzroth

Chief Administrative Officer | Beacon Credit Union

As the Chief Administrative Officer for Beacon Credit Union, Lori has an extensive background in HR Management, Benefit Administration, Culture, and Strategic Planning. A pioneering spirit within employee benefits has afforded her opportunities to serve as member of CUNA&s Employee Benefit Advisory Council, where she presented on Consumer Driven Healthcare options and as longtime Trustee, now serving as the President of a collaborative Healthcare Consortium (MEWA) for Credit Unions in Indiana.

With 30 years of financial institution experience in Human Resources, Lori most certainly defines her passion to be Employee Benefits. She enjoys the challenge of seeking out competitive Employee Benefit options, remaining educated and compliant in benefits law, and building programs that aim to recruit and retain talent within the industry. She is professionally certified with both SHRM and HRCI, a graduate of Indiana University-Bloomington with degrees in Psychology and Sociology, and serves on a variety of boards and committees in her local community of Marion, Indiana.

Don Hartmann

Total Rewards Consultant | Don Hartmann Consulting

Don Hartmann has spent most of his career in various roles throughout the HR discipline. Don worked for Anheuser-Busch, Inc. for 26 years, where he held many different positions, including Director of US Payroll, Director of North American Human Resource Systems, and Director of North America Compensation (including global executive comp).

From there, Don moved into the Credit Union universe as Director of Compensation and Benefits, overseeing processes including Time Management, Payroll, HR Systems, Worker's Comp, Corporate Wellness Initiatives, Compensation and Benefits. Shortly thereafter, Don added responsibilities, including Workforce Planning and People Analytics. He retired as the Vice President of Employee Resource Center in 2021.

Don decided he was not yet ready to stop working and now consults on compensation and total rewards planning through his own company, Don Hartmann Consulting.
